Lectors are men and women, who after meeting with the Pastor and attending a seminar hosted by the Archdiocese, are certified for a designated period of time to participate in the Mass by reading in front of the congregation at Mass.
The weekend Mass readings generally include:
A First Reading from the Old Testament
A Responsorial Psalm
A Second Reading from the New Testament
The weekday Mass readings generally include:
A First Reading from the Old Testament
A Responsorial Psalm
The lector for a weekend Mass also reads the parish announcements before the Mass begins.
Seminars are hosted by the Archdiocese of New Orleans at different times during the year. If you would like to learn more about becoming a Lector at Mass, please call the church office for additional information.
